Sakeenah is preparing to launch a full Swahili version of the platform — sakeenah.world/sw — to serve East African Muslim communities in their language. The platform's content library includes Quran lessons, Hadith, stories of the Prophets and Sahaba, Islamic history, and more — all of which will need accurate, natural Swahili translation.
This is not a mechanical translation role. Islamic content in Swahili requires someone who understands both the deen and the nuance of the language — a direct translation of an Arabic concept often needs a cultural bridge, not just a word substitution.
ما ستقوم به
- Translate assigned content from English to Swahili — Quran lessons, Hadith, stories, articles
- Ensure Islamic terms are rendered correctly and consistently
- Flag any English content that is unclear or theologically sensitive before translating
- Review previously translated content and suggest improvements where needed
- Coordinate with the content reviewer to ensure theological accuracy is maintained in Swahili
- Over time, help develop a Swahili Islamic style guide for the platform
ما نبحث عنه
- Native or near-native Swahili speaker
- Strong English reading comprehension
- Solid Islamic knowledge — enough to understand the content being translated
- Awareness of Swahili Islamic terminology used in East Africa (particularly Kenya and Tanzania)
- Ability to produce natural, readable Swahili — not stiff or overly literal
- Consistency and availability to translate assigned content on a weekly basis
