About Sakeenah
What is Sakeenah?
Sakeenah is an Islamic knowledge and community platform offering Quran lessons, Hadith studies, Stories of Prophets and Sahabahs, Q&A, Nasheeds, and more — all in one place.
Is Sakeenah free to use?
Yes, all core features of Sakeenah are free to access. We are supported by voluntary donations from our community members.
Do I need to be Muslim to use Sakeenah?
Not at all. Sakeenah is for everyone. Many readers are simply curious about Islam, and the Discover Islam journey was written especially for them — gently, with no pressure and no judgement.
Which languages is Sakeenah available in?
The website can be used in English, Kiswahili and Arabic. Qur'an and hadith translations are currently in English, alongside the original Arabic.
How do I contact the Sakeenah team?
Use the contact form, the live chat bubble at the bottom of every page, or email info@sakeenah.world. We read every message.
Can I volunteer or write for Sakeenah?
We would love that. See Careers & volunteering for open roles — writers, translators, designers, developers and reviewers are all welcome.
Can I share Sakeenah content?
Yes, please share links freely using the share buttons — that is the best way to spread beneficial knowledge. If you republish text, please credit Sakeenah and link back to the page.
New to Islam
I'm curious about Islam but not ready to talk to anyone. Where should I start?
Start with Discover Islam — ten short steps you can read at your own pace, without an account. Nothing is shared and there is no pressure.
I have just become Muslim. Can Sakeenah help me?
Yes, and welcome! Read first steps for new Muslims, and ask us anything privately — no question is too basic.
Content and sources
Where does the Qur'an text come from?
The Arabic is the standard Uthmani text from Tanzil, never retyped by hand. The English translation is Saheeh International. Recitations come from the Islamic Network CDN.
Are the hadith on Sakeenah authentic?
Hadith come from the recognised collections (Bukhari, Muslim, the Sunan and others) and their gradings are shown — sahih (authentic), hasan (good) or da'if (weak). We never present weak narrations as rulings.
Is any content written by AI?
Some commentary and stories are drafted with the help of AI tools from cited classical sources. The Qur'an and hadith texts themselves are never generated. Every piece is reviewed by a person before publishing, and the page tells you when AI helped.
Qur'an
How is the daily Quran lesson determined?
Our editorial team publishes one hizb quarter lesson per day, progressing through the full Quran in 240 days (one full reading cycle).
How is the daily Qur'an lesson chosen?
Lessons move through the Qur'an in order, a short passage at a time, so that over time the whole Qur'an is covered with context, tafsir and practical lessons.
Can I listen to the Qur'an on Sakeenah?
Yes. Every surah can be played in full, or verse by verse, and you can choose the reciter.
Your account
Why should I create an account?
An account lets you save items, keep your reading history and streak, ask public questions, keep your donation receipts together, and have your theme and language follow you across devices.
I didn't receive the confirmation or password email.
Wait a few minutes and check your spam or promotions folder. You can ask for a new link from the sign-in page. If it still doesn't arrive, contact us from the same email address.
How do I delete my account?
Go to My Sakeenah → Sign-in & security → Delete my account. Your saved items, history and notifications are removed and your profile is anonymised. Donation records are kept without your name, as charities must keep them.
Questions and live chat
Can I ask a question privately?
Yes. Use "Ask privately" in Discover Islam or on the Questions page. Only our team sees it, it is never published, and a real person replies by email. No account is needed.
Does Sakeenah give fatwas?
No. We explain what the Qur'an, the Sunnah and the scholars say, and where scholars differ we say so. For a personal ruling we may suggest speaking to a qualified scholar who knows your situation.
Why hasn't my question or comment appeared yet?
Every public question, answer and comment is reviewed before it appears, to keep the site accurate and kind. This usually takes less than a day. You'll be notified when it is published or answered.
Is there a live chat?
Yes — tap the chat bubble at the bottom of any page. When the team is online you'll get a reply within minutes; when offline, leave your message and email and we'll reply soon.
Donations
How do I donate?
Visit our Donate page and select a cause or make a general donation. We accept Paystack, PayPal, M-Pesa, and cryptocurrency.
Will I receive a receipt for my donation?
Yes, a professional PDF receipt is automatically generated and sent to your email after every successful donation.
Is my payment information safe?
Yes. Payments are handled on the secure pages of Paystack, Safaricom M-Pesa or PayPal. Sakeenah never sees or stores your card details.
Can I give anonymously or on behalf of someone?
Yes. Tick "Keep my gift anonymous in public lists", and use the message box to note an intention, for example on behalf of a late parent.
App and notifications
Is there a Sakeenah app?
Yes, for Android — tap "Get the app" at the bottom of any page. On iPhone, open sakeenah.world in Safari and choose Share → Add to Home Screen.
Can I use Sakeenah offline?
Pages you have opened before remain available when you lose your connection, so you can keep reading. New pages need an internet connection.
How do I turn notifications on or off?
