Musnad Ahmad 4193

Musnad of Abdullah bin Mas'ood

It was narrated that 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) said: I was hiding behind the curtain of the Ka'bah, and two Thaqafi men and their Qurashi in-law, or two Qurashis and their Thaqafi in-law, came in; they were very sat but not very smart, and they spoke among themselves. One of them said to his companion: Do you think Allah hears what we say? The other said: I think He hears us if we raise our voices, but He does not hear us if we do not raise our voices. The other one said: If He hears some of it He will hear all of it. I went to the Prophet (ﷺ) and told him about that, and Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, revealed the words: “And you have not been hiding yourselves (in the world), lest your ears and your eyes.” (Fussilat 41:22).
