Many people are surprised to learn how much the Qur’an honours Jesus (‘Isa) and his mother Mary (Maryam), peace be upon them. A whole chapter of the Qur’an is named after Mary, and she is the only woman mentioned there by name.
And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds
Qur'ani 3:42
Muslims believe Jesus was born miraculously to the virgin Mary, that he was the Messiah, that he healed the sick and gave life to the dead by God’s permission, and that he will return before the end of time. Muslims love him as one of the greatest messengers of God.
Where Muslims and Christians differ is on his nature: Muslims believe Jesus was a human prophet, not God or the son of God. These differences can be discussed with respect and friendship, and the Qur’an invites exactly that kind of conversation.
