Wherever you are on your journey, here are some gentle next steps:
- Keep reading. Try our daily Qur’an lessons, the stories of the prophets and the sayings of the Prophet ﷺ.
- Talk to someone. Ask us a question privately, or visit a local mosque. Most mosques welcome visitors and are happy to answer questions.
- Make a free account to save what you read and track your progress through these steps.
Becoming Muslim
If you come to believe that there is no god but God and that Muhammad ﷺ is His messenger, becoming Muslim is simple. You say the shahadah sincerely:
Ash-hadu an lā ilāha illā-llāh, wa ash-hadu anna Muḥammadan rasūlu-llāh.
I bear witness that there is no god but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God.
There is no ceremony or fee, and no one needs to approve it. Many people like to say it in front of witnesses at a mosque, and we would be glad to help you connect with one. Islam teaches that when someone embraces it, their past sins are forgiven and they begin with a clean page.
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful
Qur'ani 39:53
